Judge BMX freestyle contests on phones. Results go live in seconds.

Set up a contest in minutes, give each judge a QR code, and bar does the maths under UCI rules: averages, rankings and the next round's start list. Riders see what it takes to clear the bar, and the crowd follows the results live.

How it works

Three steps on contest day.

bar replaces the clipboard, the spreadsheet and the whiteboard. It runs in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to install.

01 · BEFORE

Pick a format, paste the riders

Create the contest, add categories such as U13 or Elite and paste the rider list from Excel or Google Sheets.

  • UCI BMX Park and BMX Best Trick built in: rounds, heats and riders through by the number of entries.
  • Start order by ranking, random draw or as listed.
  • Printable judge sheets. A heat never splits across pages.
02 · DURING

Each judge scores on their phone

Judges scan their QR code and give one mark per run, rider by rider: the run, the mark, Send → next rider.

  • Or one scorer types every mark into a single table.
  • Weak signal? Marks wait on the phone and send by themselves.
  • Marks far from the rest of the panel are flagged.
03 · AFTER

Results everyone can follow

The head judge approves each heat, and one click builds the next round in reverse order of the ranking.

  • Live results by link or QR code, or held until the head judge releases them.
  • Results sheet as PDF, CSV or Excel.
  • Judge analysis shows how each judge scored against the panel.

Everything in bar

UCI rules built in. UCI BMX Park and BMX Best Trick, with qualification, semi-final and final where the rules have them and heats split by the number of entries. More formats are switched on one by one, each once it is checked against its rulebook.
Exact to the hundredth. Averages are cut to two decimals, never rounded, and ties go to the judges’ decision.
The bar. Every rider sees how many points they need for first place or to make the cut.
Judges on their phones. A big run label, one rider at a time in heat order, so a mark never lands in the wrong run.
Two ways to score. Judges on phones, or the head judge enters every mark in one table, with keyboard shortcuts and paste from a spreadsheet.
Approval and change log. Approved heats lock; every correction is logged with the time, for example “J2: 72 → 74.5”.
Live or released. Show scores as they come in, or keep them hidden until the head judge releases the round.
Judge analysis. One card per judge in plain words: strictness against the panel, largest deviations and rank agreement.
Your own formats. Set the run length, number of runs, rounds and criteria for any contest judged by a panel.
Safe data. Stored in the EU and backed up every night, encrypted. Results private, by link or public on your organiser page.

About

Built by a judge,
not a software company.

I’m Edgars Zakalovskis. I’ve been riding BMX since 2003 and competed in Park events across Latvia and Lithuania until 2010. I still ride today.

For more than 15 years I’ve judged BMX freestyle, from grassroots jams and national contests to UCI C1 events. I’ve judged every edition of Mad Liepāja and Ride the Dragon. Along the way I’ve worked alongside UCI-trained judges and learned how international panels score.

bar grew out of those judging tables. I wanted a tool that keeps up with a live session, makes the numbers clear to riders and the crowd, and lets the head judge sign off with confidence.

Guides: How BMX Park is scored →

What is bar?

bar is online judging software for BMX freestyle contests, made by a BMX freestyle judge in Latvia. Judges score on their phones from a QR code, bar works out averages, rankings and next-round start lists under UCI rules, and riders and spectators follow the results live.

Which disciplines and formats does bar support?

Right now: UCI BMX Park and BMX Best Trick. Each format is switched on only after it has been checked against its rulebook, with qualification, semi-final and final and heats split by the number of entries where the rules have them. Organisers can also build their own format.

How much does bar cost?

Every feature is free for categories of up to 8 riders. Bigger categories can be scored too; their places, results and live page open with a licence: one contest, one year for one discipline, or one year for all disciplines. Licences are sold to organisations, paid by invoice, and the price is on request.

Do judges need an app or an account?

No. Each judge scans a personal QR code and scores in the phone's browser, one rider at a time. Only the organiser needs a free account. The head judge can also type every mark into one grid on a computer.

What if there is no internet at the venue?

Judges keep scoring. Marks are kept on the phone and sent by themselves as soon as the connection is back; the scoring table and live results update when they arrive.

How are scores calculated?

Each judge's marks are averaged for every run. In UCI BMX formats judges score 0–99.99, the average is truncated (not rounded) to two decimals, ties go to the judges' decision, and the head judge approves each heat before its scores lock (UCI 6bis). Every correction is logged with the time, and judge analysis shows how each judge scored against the panel.

Can results stay hidden until the round is over?

Yes. Per round, scores either show live as they come in, or stay hidden until the head judge releases the round. Judges can see the panel's marks to talk them over first.

Is bar an official UCI product?

No. bar follows the published rules and is not affiliated with the UCI or any other federation. References to rulebooks describe features only.

Where is the data kept?

Contest data is stored in the EU and backed up every night, encrypted. Each organiser chooses whether a contest's results are private, shared by link, or public on their organiser page.
